Yesterday some of the New Testament Ph.D. students took out one of our own for lunch who presented a paper at a seminar. We went to a very good pizza place, which I enjoyed. I was particularly impressed by their range of toppings, which included cactus, marshmallows, avacado, and chocoloate (and those are just the ones I can remember). Wow. I ordered chicken and broccoli, and I think the waiter thought that was a weird order. On a similar note, the pizza place next to our apartment has an “Americano” pizza, that features corn. Ironically, I don’t ever remember having corn on a pizza in the U.S. Perhaps that is just the British way of paying tribute to Squanto.
Not only did the waiter think the order was weird, he actually came back to the table several minutes later to make sure he had heard the order right.
Corn on pizza (and everything else) was popular when I visited Brazil. Maybe they meant South Americano.
